하르호린

하르호린 도시의 흔적 위에 남아 있던 석재를 옮겨와 현재의 에르덴조 사원을 건립한 역사적 배경이 있습니다. 108개의 수브르가(탑)가 있는 외곽 담장은 사방 420미터에 달합니다. 1872년에는 50명의 수도승을 둔 보리도량(깨달음의 길) 학교가 세워졌습니다. 몽골의 귀족과 지방 영주들은 이 담장 안에 자신들의 별도 사원을 갖는 것을 명예로 여겨, 투시э트 칸의 사원, 노ён 체븐자브의 오치르다리 사원 등 많은 사원이 건립되었습니다. 그 결과 1792년경에는 62개의 사원, 약 500여 동의 건물, 1만 명의 승려가 거주하는 대규모 종교도시로 발전하였습니다. 현재는 18개의 사원과 건물이 남아 있으며, 초기 건축물로는 구르반 주의 세 사원, 주 사원, 대형 수브르가, 세룬 라브린 등이 보존되어 있습니다.

사원 담장 안에는 하르호린 도시 유적에서 발견된 석비들이 남아 있습니다. 그 뒤쪽에는 1675년에 티베트의 달라이 라마를 위해 건립된 달라이 라마 사원이 있으며, 마하기라(Mahagal) 신의 13가지 형상, 달라이 라마의 여섯 환생, 언더르 게гэн 자나바자르 등의 형상이 전시되어 있습니다. 외부 양쪽에는 휘르덴 사원이 자리하고 있습니다. 이 사원들 뒤의 별도 담장 안에는 두 개의 영묘가 있으며, 하나는 아브타이 사이인 칸, 다른 하나는 그의 아들 투시엣 칸 곰보도르지의 유해를 모신 것입니다. 두 영묘 뒤편에는 구르반 주의 세 사원이 위치합니다.

이 사원들은 못 하나 사용하지 않고 전통 방식으로 목재를 짜 맞추어 건립되었으며, 이중 벽 구조로 만들어졌습니다. 이는 첫째로 기후의 온도 차를 조절하고, 둘째로 참배와 순례를 위한 구조적 목적을 갖습니다. 구르반 주 사원은 집회용이 아닌 참배용 사원이었습니다.

에르덴조 사원의 건물과 예술 작품들은 17세기 몽골 조각가, 화가, 장인들이 만든 뛰어난 예술·공예품을 보존하고 있습니다. 수묵화, 문양, 조각, 주조 불상, 수브르가, 제의용 용기, 종, 금강저, 장식 보석 공예품, 호롤 만달, 참(Cham) 가면과 의상 등 다양한 문화유산이 현재까지 전승되고 있습니다. 몽골 정부는 에르덴조 사원의 18개 유산을 국가 보물 목록에 등록하여 '대체 불가능한 귀중 유산'으로 지정하였습니다.

유네스코가 발간한 『몽골의 역사·문화 유산』에서는 에르덴조 사원이 몽골의 전통 도시 구조에 따라 건축된 유일한 사찰이며, 하르호린 궁전 건축 양식과 동일하다고 기록하고 있습니다. 에르덴조 사원은 사계절 내내 국내외 관광객이 끊이지 않는 대표 방문지로 자리하고 있으며, 연간 약 2만 명 이상의 방문객이 찾고 있습니다.

Genghis Khan Statue Complex

We will drive to the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, home to the world’s largest equestrian statue standing 40 meters tall. You can take the elevator up to the horse’s head for a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and capture some memorable photos.

Terelj National Park

We will continue our journey to Terelj National Park, one of the most popular and picturesque protected areas in Mongolia. On the way, we’ll stop by Turtle Rock, a naturally shaped rock formation resembling a turtle. Just a few kilometers from there, we’ll visit Aryabal Meditation Temple, a must-see site. From the temple’s summit, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the national park’s scenic landscape.
